Closing of the Diocesan Process for the Engineer Arturo Álvarez

On July 7, 2023, the Cardinal Archbishop of Guadalajara (Mexico), José Francisco Robles Ortega, presided over the closing ceremony of the diocesan process on the life, virtues and reputation for sanctity of the Servant of God Arturo Alvarez (1935-1992), a chemical engineer and professor at the University of Guadalajara. Arturo Alvarez is the first associate member of the Prelature of Opus Dei, and the first Mexican in Opus Dei, whose process of beatification has been opened.

The event was attended by many relatives, friends, colleagues and former students of “Inge,” as he was familiarly known.

The postulator of the cause is Father Jesús Becerra. Throughout the process, 39 witnesses have been heard. Now the resulting documentation will be sent to the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.

An exhibition was presented with the intention of making better known the life of Arturo Alvarez. An initiative of the parish council of the church of San Josemaría in Guadalajara, it consists of nine panels of digital printing of images on vinyl. By showing many details of the life of “Inge,” hopefully it will help to bring him closer to many people and increase devotion to him.

This exhibition will also be shown at the University of Guadalajara. In fact, among the first people interested in supporting his cause were Arturo Alvarez’s former students. It will also be shown in the Cathedral of Guadalajara and, later, in other places throughout the country.
