Closing of the Diocesan Process for Bishop Adolfo Rodríguez Vidal

On December 20, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., presided over by Bishop Felipe Bacarreza of Santa María de Los Angeles (Chile), the closing session of the diocesan process for Bishop Adolfo Rodríguez Vidal took place.

Bishop Bacarreza had personally invited the faithful of the diocese to attend the ceremony. A good number of priests and faithful who had come from Santiago and from cities near Los Angeles, such as Concepción, Temuco and Chillán, gathered in the cathedral. The Regional Vicar of the Prelature of Opus Dei, Fr. Alvaro Palacios, was present, accompanied by Fr. Fernando Eguiguren, who was charged with taking the sealed boxes to the nunciature the following day, Thursday 21, for their subsequent shipment to the Holy See.

Adolfo Rodríguez Vidal (1920-2003), a priest of the Work who arrived in Chile in 1950 at the request of St. Josemaría to begin the apostolic work there, was named bishop of Los Angeles in 1988. He held this position until 1994. It is the diocese itself that is promoting his cause for beatification. In 2016, the Congregation for the Causes of Saints granted the nihil obstat for opening of the cause. With the closing of the diocesan phase, the cause now will be taken to Rome, where the Positio will be drawn up.
