Appointment of the Tribunal for the Cause of Canonization of Archbishop Juan Larrea Holguín

On June 11, His Eminence Cardinal Luis Herrera, OFM, appointed Rev. Carlos Ayala Mosquera as postulator, Rev. Mauricio Romero Ronquillo as promoter of justice, attorney María Cristina Muirragui as notary, and Rev. William Franco Franco as expert in history for the canonization cause of Archbishop Juan Larrea.

Archbishop Juan Larrea (1927-2006) was the first Ecuadorian member of Opus Dei. Ordained a priest in 1962, he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Quito in 1969. From 1975 he governed the diocese of Ibarra, and after a period as military bishop (1983-1988), he moved to Guayaquil, first as coadjutor bishop and then as archbishop (1989-2003).
