On July 13, a large number of faithful took part in a Mass of thanksgiving in the cathedral of Cañete, Peru, celebrated by Bishop Ricardo Garcia for the fiftieth anniversary of St. Josemaría's stay in the city. After the ceremony, the bishop, the faithful and various local authorities went to the city’s main square to bless the new image of the saint that has been placed there, a bronze sculpture by Arequipa artist Fredy Luque.

After the blessing of the statue, a caravan was organized through the districts of San Vicente and Imperial, led by a car carrying a replica of the statue of St. Josemaría.
