This year, the feast of St. Josemaría coincided with the fiftieth anniversary of his death. Catholic faithful in cities around the world were especially eager to join in the Masses celebrated in his honor.

In Rome, the Prelate of Opus Dei celebrated Mass for St. Josemaría in the Basilica of St. Eugene (The text of his homily is included in the section On the Prelate). In Italy, the feast day of the founder of Opus Dei was celebrated liturgically in more than a hundred cities. A similar number is estimated in Spain and other countries.
