Blessing of an Image in the Church of San Martín (Salamanca, Spain)
On February 9, about two hundred people attended the blessing of a modern and simple altarpiece with the image of St. Josemaría on a wall of the parish church of San Martín, a Romanesque church in which the founder of Opus Dei celebrated Mass on several occasions during his stays in Salamanca.
Before the blessing ceremony, a Mass of thanksgiving was celebrated by Fr. Ignacio Aparisi Laporta, Vicar of Opus Dei for Northwest Spain, accompanied by the parish priest, Fr. Antonio Matilla. In his homily, Fr. Ignacio mentioned the link of this church with St. Josemaría.
The altarpiece, designed by architect Rodrigo Zaparaín, uses digital printing of the image on a rigid support; it is made of solid maple wood and brushed aluminum and harmonizes with the stone of the recently restored church.
