Caregiver Training Program (Medellín, Colombia)

Since 2018, the La Cuesta Cultural Center in Medellín, Colombia, has been offering an informal education program aimed at women who want to learn how to provide comprehensive care for older adults in their own families or in care centers. More than a hundred women have already taken part in the program, including residents of Medellín and other cities in Colombia, as well as other countries such as Great Britain, Spain, and Italy. The course is delivered in a hybrid format, with face-to-face sessions, virtual sessions, and annual meetings to bring the students together. In recent years, classes of 25 students have been graduating.

The caregiver training program also includes self-care for caregivers, and provides knowledge of physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychology, treatment of cognitive impairment, physical and mental hygiene, nutrition, and dietetics. It also addresses issues such as the transcendent meaning of vulnerability and human and spiritual accompaniment in the terminal stage of life.
