Sulle orme di san Josemaría: Pilgrimage to Spain by Amici di Saxum (Italy)

The first pilgrimage to Spain by Amici di Saxum, aimed at following in the footsteps of St. Josemaría, was an experience that visibly moved those who took part in it: some thirty people, mostly middle-aged couples from various cities in Italy. The trip, from October 26 to November 2, included Marian shrines such as Montserrat and Torreciudad, the church of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, the Basilica of El Pilar in Zaragoza, cities such as Barbastro (birthplace of St. Josemaría), Avila and Segovia, and above all Madrid, where the group spent three days.

In the Spanish capital, besides other points of tourist interest, the pilgrimage stopped at the oratory of Caballero de Gracia (where the remains of Blessed Guadalupe repose), the monastery of Santa Isabel, the church of Our Lady of the Angels, the Foundation for the Sick, and other places equally emblematic in the history of the early days of Opus Dei.

An expert guide accompanied the group and gave explanations about the episodes in St. Josemaría’s life that had taken place at each site, as well as about the artistic and scenic treasures encountered during the trip.

The success of the pilgrimage has prompted Amici di Saxum to organize two more pilgrimages to Spain in 2025 to visit key sites in the life of St. Josemaría: one in the spring and the other in the fall. Some of the participants in this first pilgrimage have already made it known that they want to repeat the experience.
