Critical Edition of Camino Published by the Centro para la Edición de los Clásicos Españoles
The Centro para la Edición de los Clásicos Españoles, directed by Professor Francisco Rico and dependent on the University of Valladolid, has published a new critical edition of Camino. It has been prepared by philologist Fidel Sebastián, a specialist in the literature of the Spanish Golden Age. His work consisted in annotating the text where necessary and deciding on the small textual variants, mostly of punctuation, that have appeared so far in the publishing tradition of the book in Spanish.
This is an edition made with a different methodology than the one used by Pedro Rodríguez in his critical-historical edition, published two decades ago. This edition, following the guidelines in which Francisco Rico trained his disciples (Fidel Sebastián is one of them), places the various elements (text, critical apparatus, notes, etc.) not on the same page, as Rodriguez did in his day, but in different parts of the book.
On March 15, in Barcelona, the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya hosted a presentation of this new critical edition of Camino. Besides the editor of the work, also taking part was Guillermo Serés, professor of Spanish literature at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and a member of the Royal Spanish Academy.
